The Recovery In-Sight team wins Best Business Plan 2009 in the University of Hertfordshire’s FLARE competition for entrepreneurial development !
The Recovery In-Sight team, selected from over 120 entrants, was invited to pitch its business ideas in true Dragon’s Den style to judges in the final round of the competition at Tower Bridge in London on 1st May 2009.
Judges included Ruth Badger from The Apprentice, a University representative from Exemplas, which aids new business ideas to develop in the market, and an accountant from Deloitte. At the prize-giving dinner in Beales Hotel, Hatfield, the Recovery In-Sight team was congratulated by the Business School Director on its unique initiative to offer top quality training, research, advisory and self-help services, delivered by academically-trained people affected by mental health issues, within a social enterprise business model. The team was given engraved crystal gifts.
Prizes for Recovery In-Sight include free furnished office accommodation in the University’s prestigious MacLaurin Building for a year, a lap-top and the exciting opportunity to work with Ruth Badger as she wishes to drive forward the sales and marketing strategy to make the business successful.Ruth Badger said: “It was one of the best business plans I have ever seen - really grabbing from the first page. It helped that the business is already up and running. “I would not expect people working in that sector to be able to produce such a good business plan.”
Announced at the recent quarterly committee meetings of both Watford and Stevenage self-help groups in Hertfordshire and during an earlier funder’s meeting with Hertfordshire County Council Adult Care Services on Saturday 9th May, all team members and self-help attendees are eager to make the most of this validation for their ideas and of the opportunity to make a difference to recovery services and practice.
Exciting times ahead! And thank you to the organisers of FLARE! The crystal gifts will look splendid in our new offices.
