High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Lord Charles Cecil and his wife Lady Virginia visit RISE

  • It was with great pleasure and a great honour that Dr Straughan and Dr Maru met with Lord Charles Cecil, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire and his lovely wife Lady Virginia at the Old Free School in Watford on 5th September 2011, when they were able to discuss with them the Recovery In-Sight training and how people with mental health problems had benefitted from this in their recovery.

Lord and Lady Cecil visited the School and the offices, which accommodate people with mental health challenges who wish to gain valuable experience in a supportive user-led office environment as a way to return to work by promoting the services that The Recovery In-Sight Social Enterprise offers.

Lord Charles has a special interest in the rehabilitation of offenders during his office as High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, a role that means that he is the Queen’s representative in the county during this time. Dr Maru spoke about the lack of recovery services available to offenders, a high percentage of whom experience mental distress, and the possibility to offer Recovery In-Sight training to offenders to better manage their health. Lord and Lady Cecil, who are residents of Hatfield Park, showed great interest in the training and the user-led social enterprise, and visited for over an hour.

The visit was proposed by Hertfordshire Community Foundation.

Dear Gemma, We had our public open day on 10th September (English Heritage Day) at the Old Free School. Otherwise we don’t give free tours round what are our working offices. If you consider that there may be opportunities to work together, please get in touch to arrange a business meeting. best wishes, Heather.
